Two awesome "Frappuccinos" that you can make at home!

The Frappuccino was invented and trademarked by George Howell, founder of The Coffee Connection, a high-end coffee chain in Boston, Massachusetts. Howell was one of the pioneers of the specialty-coffee movement in the United States. The name of this popular beverage is a combination of “frappé,” describing an iced coffee drink and “cappuccino,” referring to an espresso with hot milk and delicious milk foam. In 1994, Starbucks bought The Coffee Connection and gained the rights to use the term Frappuccino. Among the many varieties of this beverage, the Mocha Frappuccino and the Caramel Frappuccino are the best sellers.

Call it what you will, the Frappuccino is a wildly popular and delicious iced coffee beverage, and you can make a version of it at home in just a couple of minutes. Here are our versions of the two most popular flavors:

Caramel “Frappuccino”

For this recipe, you can use any top-quality coffee, but of course we recommend one of the exclusive specialty coffees from Mill Creek Spice Company. If you prefer, you can also use decaffeinated coffee. Needless to say, our "America's Best Decaf" will be an excellent choice for the preparation of your caramel de-frap! The first step is to brew 1 cup of strong coffee, which will be enough for 2 servings. Add 1 cup of milk, as well as 1/3 cup of caramel sauce, and 3 tablespoons of white sugar. Pour your mix into a blender along with 2 cups of ice and blend on high until smooth. Serve your delicious frozen caramel concoctions into two 16-ounce glasses. Of course, topping each glass with whipped cream and an extra drizzle of caramel sauce is a must!

Mocha Frappuccino

To start with, brew 3/4 cup of strong coffee. We recommend using Sumatra Mandheling Coffee from Mill Creek Spice Company. This blend is made of 100% pure Arabica beans from Sumatra, an island in Indonesia. It is known to have a very low acidity, and a rich chocolaty flavor that be perfect for your homemade iced mocha blend. Add 1/4 cup of sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add 1 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup, and stir well. Pour your mix and about a cup of ice cubes in a blender, and blend until smooth. To make your drinks, divide into two glasses, add whipped cream on top, with a finishing drizzle of chocolate syrup.
